There are so many reasons people should find opportunities to travel. When you visit a different city, you’re given the chance to gain new experiences, discover new cultures and spend time with friends or family in a new atmosphere! The only downside is, when you venture to unfamiliar places, typically your time isn’t the only thing getting spent. Between the travel expenses, dining and activities, trips can really put a dent in your wallet! That’s why we want to help you visit Williamsburg on a budget.
Here at King’s Creek, we don’t want to make you choose between being a responsible spender and experiencing an amazing place like the ‘Burg’. Here are some tips for how to penny pinch while you travel…
1.Try activities that cost $10 or less.
Visit the place where American independence was won. Yorktown Battlefield is where the last major victory took place during the Revolutionary War. Come witness where allied American and French forces ended the war for only $10. This admission is good for 7 days, and can be upgraded for another $10 to include Historic Jamestowne. Check out days when this historic site will be offering free admission here.
While exploring the inside of buildings and museums comes at a cost, the grounds of Colonial Williamsburg are open to visitors. Stroll through the 18th-century streets, and experience the rich history by touring historic buildings, witnessing historical interpreters and dining in one of the historic taverns.
Movies. Meals. Margaritas. Often times, people will organize a night out that involves dinner, drink and then a movie. Here in Williamsburg, we like having an opportunity to combine all three! The Movie Tavern in Williamsburg is a full service casual dining restaurant that shows First-Run Movies. The best part is they have amazing deals available, like $5 movies every Tuesday, and students can take a study break with $6 movies every Thursday.
Visit the campus of William & Mary to explore 5,000 artworks ranging from pre-Columbian to post-modern collections. Admission is free to members, W&M college students, faculty, and staff, and children under 12, and many exhibits are only $5 for non-members!
Fun is even better when it’s FREE! Visit the Yorktown Freight Shed on Thursday nights and enjoy a variety of talented musicians perform in their concert series! There are no tickets or reservations, these are first come, first served events!
2.Find cheap eats.
The next step to visit Williamsburg on a budget is to not let every outing end with a painful check drop. Finding restaurants that are inexpensive but rich in flavor will help keep your taste buds and your bank account content!
If you’re looking for good food, large portions and small prices, Shorty’s Diner is the place to visit! This family-owned and operated restaurant serves homemade recipes and weekly specials, made fresh daily.
This local barbeque restaurant has become a Virginia tradition! When you visit this Williamsburg gem, you can expect to be served good times and good eatin’! Check out their menu for all their prized barbeque for surprising prices!
Take delight in a delicious cheesesteak without making a trip to Philly! With the best Philly cheesesteaks in the Williamsburg area, a variety of flavorful menu choices, and affordable prices, Rick’s is an excellent stop on anyone’s trip itinerary!
3.Don’t bother leaving the resort.
While there are so many places to explore when you visit the Historic Triangle, there are plenty of adventures to be had without even leaving King’s Creek’s resort! (This is a huge money-saver when you visit Williamsburg on a budget!)
Within the gated community, the fun begins with many on-site amenities! During the warm months, enjoy multiple outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, playgrounds, jogging trail, barbecue grills, a basketball court and picnic areas that dot the rolling hills of the landscaped lawns and woodlands. While the cold winter months are upon us, take advantage of the year-round indoor aquatic center, jetted pools, saunas and large workout room.
Check out the activity center to see all the fun that’s always on schedule! Their social room hosts movie nights, ice cream socials, bingo, arts and crafts, chocolate-making classes, a Not-So-Newlywed game for married couples, and many seasonal social events.
When it comes to food, spare yourself the expensive outing and prepare your meals at your home away from home! The kitchens include cooking utensils and cookware, full-size refrigerators, as well as electric range microwaves, coffee makers, toasters and blenders.
