Things to Look Forward to This Spring

It’s finally time to say goodbye to the slush, sleet, ice and snow…

If you live somewhere other than Williamsburg, Virginia, that is. Our winters are pretty mild by all accounts, and this winter was unseasonably uneventful when it came to chilly precipitation. But that’s a huge part of the charm of life down south!

The Historic Triangle is just simmering with events and festivities for you to enjoy as the weather warms up. Here’s what you can look forward to:

New Museum Exhibits

This month, you may want to check out an exhibit that’s an historic event in and of itself. “Botticelli and the Search for the Divine: Florentine Painting between the Medici and the Bonfires of the Vanities” can be found at the College of William & Mary’s Muscarelle Museum. It features 16 of the most famous works of painter Sandro Botticelli, one of the world’s most celebrated Italian Renaissance artists. The Wall Street Journal gave the exhibit a favorable review, and it has extra clout for being the first-ever international loan exhibition of Botticelli’s works in the U.S. Unless you’re planning to travel to Europe any time soon, this may be your only chance to feast your eyes on stunning and authentic works of beauty like “Primavera” and “The Birth of Venus.” Read more about this once-in-a-lifetime exhibit and the life of Botticelli here. 

If American history is more up your alley, come witness the grand opening of the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown between March 23 and April 4. This is an awesome opportunity to learn about our nation’s revolutionary heritage while touring brand new gallery exhibits, exploring outdoor living history displays, and enjoying musical performances in the great outdoors. 

Outdoor Fun

If you’re looking for a unique opportunity to get fresh air and exercise, view a lot of scenery in a short period of time, learn a little history and follow it all up with a tasty adult beverage, we have just the event for you. On Sundays starting March 19, the Williamsburg Winery Cycle Club will be gathering up cycling enthusiasts to tour the Historic Triangle. For an extra dose of adrenaline, check out Freedom Park for a treetop adventure with Go Ape, where you can take a thrilling zip line ride through five sections of forest, with each being more exciting than the last (the last zip line flings you more than 600 feet while suspended up to 50 feet in the air!). Participants can also try obstacles like rope ladders, net bridges, trapezes and Tarzan swings. This is a great activity to try with friends or family, and because it’s so popular, reservations are recommended!
