Educational activities we think you’ll dig.
Hands on the Past is an interactive archaeology-based event in Historic Jamestowne. Families become familiar with the moment of discovery and learn the process for examining artifacts found at the site. The best part about this program is that it’s full of hands-on activities, like pottery mending and screening for artifacts. Filter through excavated material for traces of the 17th century and help the archaeology team discover new pieces from the past! This event will continue until September 2 from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
For more archaeology fun, visit Jamestown’s Rediscovery for the Curator’s Artifact Tour! This tour includes a closer look at the archaeology laboratory and collection facility. Learn each step of the process, from categorizing and analyzing to research and storage of artifacts. You’ll even have a chance to see a brief overview of the 2 million artifacts and discoveries since digging began in 1994! This program is 90 minutes long and will continue through October.
