Make Father’s Day Fabulous in Williamsburg

Father’s Day is on Sunday, June 19, so we wanted to share some suggestions to make Father’s Day fabulous in Williamsburg. Treat the guy who teaches you all those important life lessons, from how to hold your breath underwater to how to brave your first roller coaster ride.

There’s something here for every type of dad, from history lovers to the foodies to thrill-seekers. It’s all here in Williamsburg, and at King’s Creek, you’ll have quick access to it all!

Golf

If Dad’s the type who likes to swing a club, Williamsburg has no shortage of 5-star destinations, for casual players and experts alike. With over a dozen gorgeous courses designed by architects like Robert Trent Jones, Sr., Arnold Palmer and Nicklaus Design Associates, he’ll have plenty of options when deciding where to play. King’s Creek owners and guests especially love the award-winning Kiskiack Golf Club, which offers tee times and excellent rates to King’s Creek owners.

History

This area is so rich with history that it would be easy to dedicate weeks to it! In one corner of the Historic Triangle, you have Colonial Williamsburg, the Revolutionary City. Watch costumed historic interpreters demonstrate firsthand what life was like during wartime, or tour the art museums, homes of famous residents (even the haunted ones!) and spectacular gardens of the city.

Next up is Jamestown, a cultural landmark and virtual living exhibit—a must-see as America’s first permanent English colony. Dad will love exploring replicas of the first three ships that sailed from England to Virginia in 1607, and he’ll marvel at the recreations of military outpost James Fort and Powhatan village.

There’s no better place than the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown for those who are fascinated by America’s Revolutionary period. Here, Dad can experience real-life exhibits of a Continental Army encampment and an original Revolution-era farm. This is one of the few places in the country you can visit that offers a living-history experience, coming as close as possible to life as it was hundreds of years ago!

Food

What dad isn’t hungry for gustatory adventure? Whether you’re taking him out for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you certainly won’t have a shortage of options in Williamsburg!

We highly recommend paying a visit to Baker’s Crust if you’re looking for a homemade, high-quality breakfast, brunch or lunch. If Dad appreciates an extra thoughtful and diverse breakfast menu, you simply can’t skip theirs.

To kick things up a notch, try local favorite Blue Talon Bistro. Expect sophisticated dishes, like a raclette, tomato and goat cheese tart, or a praline cream-filled French pastry over a pool of caramel and topped with red wine sorbet. Mmm. Another favorite is the highly-reviewed Opus 9 Steakhouse (think: seafood nachos, lamb lollipops, lobster scampi).

If you want to stay in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg, The Trellis Bar & Grill has it all—ambience, exceptional service and an exciting menu. Eco-conscious dads love the garden-inspired atmosphere and seasonal menu containing local, responsibly raised products used in mouth-watering combinations!

And then there’s The Cheese Shop. Ah, cheese. Is there anything more alluring than a good wheel of cheese? The Cheese Shop in Merchants Square has been in business for over 40 years and has received critical acclaim from the likes of the New York Times and Newsweek. Between their cheese and charcuterie, sandwiches, specialty food items and wine and beer collection, your dad’s taste buds are in for a rare and glorious treat.

Thrills

Are amusement parks one of your family traditions? If not, they should be! Busch Gardens lets Dad introduce the kids to the country’s fastest, coolest roller coasters, like the Loch Ness Monster, Verbolten, and the all-new Patheon. After working up a sweat at Busch Gardens, the family can jet over to Water Country, USA and cool off on tons of awesome rides and slides, including Big Daddy Falls! Both parks are minutes away from King’s Creek, so feel free to devote a whole day to play.

So, do you think we have Dad covered? To make Father’s Day fabulous in Williamsburg, come to King’s Creek and experience a family vacation he will remember for years to come.

Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, storytellers and singers of song.
