The Art Museums at Colonial Williamsburg are open all year long, but summertime features summer-themed exhibits that give you a peek into the past. Right now, you can visit a special exhibition called “I Made This…”: The Work of Black American Artists and Artisans. This exhibition celebrates the lives and works of Black American artisans and artists from the eighteenth through the twentieth-centuries. 

 

People of the Past

A central part of any culture’s history is the “story” part—and Colonial Williamsburg beautifully presents the stories of the diverse peoples who lived in, worked in, and visited 18th-century Williamsburg. Actor-interpreters draw from their extensive research on various individuals (both well-known and overlooked) to bring their stories to life before your eyes.

Besides its artifacts, Colonial Williamsburg is home to 89 original and reconstructed sites that let you explore, interact, and learn about daily life in Virginia’s colonial capital city both before and during the American Revolution.
