We’ve done the scouting for you, so all you have to do is pick an adventure and book it! (See even more ideas on our Mother’s Day post!)
Learn a Thing or Two
What’s Father’s Day without honoring Dad’s love of history? Jamestown Settlement and the new American Revolution Museum at Yorktown are perfect destinations for stepping back in time. Board re-creations of the three ships that brought America’s first permanent English colonists to Virginia, explore the Powhatan way of life in a re-created village, and watch 17th-century Virginia come to life with dramatic films. There’s no better way to learn history hands-on than this incredible place!
The Virginia Living Museum may be the ideal day trip for nature-loving dads. The VLM showcases all of Virginia’s living creatures, from land to sea. And it’s only about a 20-minute drive from King’s Creek. Explore tons of fascinating galleries and exhibits that show all the amazing flora and fauna of Virginia, from its plant and animal life to the far reaches of the universe.
Go Fish
Williamsburg, James City County and York County are best known for their amazing historical locations, but locals know that they also have some of the most beautiful places to fish and boat. If you are looking for a great place to fish with Dad, look no further (A fishing license may be purchased online at Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.)
Chickahominy Riverfront Park is an awesome camping, hiking, and fishing site that also does paddle craft rentals if fishing’s not your thing. The park has a 300-foot long fishing pier and a catch-and-release pond open 24 hours. A freshwater license is required for anyone over 16.
Waller Mill Park is another great fishing spot with a fishing pier, boat rentals, a fishing store, and walking trails and a dog park.
Set Sail
What could be better than a sailing trip on a beautiful river with an adventurous dad? Step back into history when you choose a charter through Yorktown Sailing Charters. Help set the sail, steer the ship, or just look for dolphins and osprey as you sail the shores of the York River. Check out the sailing charters available, and choose the one you think Dad would like best:

Kiskiack Golf Club is a well laid-out course with unique challenges and picturesque greens. This is a great course for players with a bit of experience—some holes demand accuracy while others are more forgiving. King’s Creek is proud to partner with Kiskiack and offers owners excellent rates to play at this breathtaking and highly favored course.
Colonial Heritage Golf Club is a beautiful 18-hole, 175-acre public course known for immaculate playing conditions and a staff that practices outstanding service and hospitality.
Golden Horseshoe Golf Club (Green Course) has a ton of accolades, including being ranked among the top 100 resort courses in America by Golfweek Magazine. It makes the perfect addition to a Father’s Day weekend itinerary since it’s so close to Colonial Williamsburg and all of its shopping and dining destinations.
