It’s the start of a new year, and to many that means a fresh start! Maybe for you that means being more active, spending more time with family or less time in front of the computer. What follows is an answer to all three of these resolutions, so read on!
January 6 – 20
York River State Park
A trip to Williamsburg and the Historic Triangle is as close as you can get to stepping back in time, and a visit to York River State is no exception. This isn’t just any hike— mountain bike and equestrian trails give you a front-row seat to early American history! First Hike Virginia is essentially a tour of Chief Powhatan’s stomping ground, plus the sites where slave cabins, blacksmith’s shops, and wheelwright’s shops once stood as part of the Taskinas Plantation. The hike is approximately four miles across mostly flat terrain until the Pamunkey Overlook, which is at the bottom of a steep bluff along the York River. Bring food and water to keep your energy levels up! Dogs are welcome, plus hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers.
Dominion Presents Liberty’s Ice Pavilion
Through February 18
Duke of Gloucester St.
Ice-skating will never go out of style! It’s one of those simple activities that gathers family and friends for an unforgettable day of effortless fun. Glide around on a trusty pair of skates, take plenty of hot chocolate breaks, and enjoy the great outdoors with your loved ones on a one of the country’s most beautiful historic streets.
Vinyl Night (Tuesdays) & Trivia Night (Wednesdays)
Alewerks
This is basically the best thing to happen to winter since the Olympics. Every Tuesday night starting at 5 p.m. in the Taproom at Alewerks Brewing Company, guests gather for craft beer, good food and retro tunes—record-style! The Alewerks staff plays their own records, and guests are invited to bring theirs for a spin on the turntable, too! And now, Vinyl Night just got an upgrade with the German Snack Shack with five different kinds of schnitzel!
And if that wasn’t enough, on Wednesday nights the Taproom turns into the best Trivia Night for miles around. This is the place to prove your smarts over some tasty craft beer and food from the area’s best food trucks!
The Comedy Club of Williamsburg
Saturdays through February 24
The Comedy Club of Williamsburg hosts nationally touring comedians who have headlined on major stages in New York, Las Vegas, and have even made appearances on Comedy Central, Last Comic Standing, Jimmy Fallon and HBO! Snag your tickets here and get ready for a night of uproarious fun!
